Cape Town business industries such as tourism, textiles, viticulture and agriculture are the Western Cape's lifeblood and the province contributes 14,21% to the GDP - the third highest provincial contribution and a healthy 3.1%, above the national average.
The tourism sector continues to be punted as a panacea for economic growth and job creation, but Cape Town is increasingly establishing itself as a desirable business location for local and offshore organisations, a number of which have relocated here.
An interesting trend (and one which many proprietary Capetonians find amusing), is the relocation to Cape Town of rival Johannesburg-based business organisations. Historically Cape Town's cost of living and working is more expensive than Johannesburg, but the lure of a Cape lifestyle and its economic success is too much to resist.
