Hawston is one of the oldest settlements nearby Hermanus and was historically designated a 'coloured' area. It has some of the best sea views in the area - great for whale watching and surfing - and historic buildings.

To assist your land-based Hermanus whale watching, the world's only Whale Crier wanders around Hermanus with a kelp bugle, a sandwich board and a cellphone. Call him to find out where the whales are. Tel: 073 214 6949.
