Mother City Queer Project (MCQP) - BEST PARTY IN TOWN - http://www.mcqp.co.za/
The annual Mother City Queer Project fancy dress extravaganza is a wildly creative art form, where costume and partying take on an entirely new meaning.
Impact of the Mother City Queer Project (MCQP) on Cape Town’s economy
“Queerness is not a cut-and-dried definition of one’s sexual orientation. Queerness is an attitude.” - MCQP marketing material.
Cape Town takes the gay market seriously, and an events research organisation was hired to quantify the impact of the Mother City Queer Project on the city's economy. They found that of the 6,500 revellers attending the 2003 party, 12% hailed from abroad, with 67% of party-goers specifically in town for this event. Research also revealed that pink travellers and visitors to the Mother City Queer Project usually stay in Cape Town for more than a month.
