Public Transport: Buses & Trains
Published: 31/01/2011 by Carrie Hampton
Cape Town train station in Adderley Street services local and national public rail networks. Spoornet operates all mainline services (tel: 086 000 8888), and Cape Metro Rail runs the suburban services (tel: 080 065 6463). Trains run once a day from Cape Town to Johannesburg departing 10am, and take about 24 hours (not taking delays into account). Cost one-way is approximately R495.
Cape Town Buses
Golden Arrow buses do not service Cape Town CBD, but they do run along the Atlantic Seaboard to such towns as Seapoint, Camps Bay and Hout Bay, and to other suburbs and townships. Buses depart from the public central bus terminus in Strand Street opposite the Railway Station. Surprisingly, they often run on time and apart from rush hour (4-6pm), are pretty empty. For information tel: 080 121 2111, Cape Town.
