» Insider information
Since the early days, South African Airways has had a reputation for its modern fleet and dedication to front-line aviation technology. In fact, SAA now boasts the most modern 747 fleet in the world, with the average age of the 747-400 fleet being just over two years. Just recently SAA placed firm orders for twenty-one 737-800 aircraft, with each aircraft seating 157 passengers in a mixed business and economy configuration.
In addition, South African Airways holds options for 20 more aircraft, which can be delivered as 737-800 models, or as larger 175 seat 737-900 models, or as smaller 125 seat 737-700 models. Thirteen Boeing 737-800 aircraft are currently in service. The new fleet - which will be used to service all SAA routes in South Africa, incl. Cape Town as well as regional routes throughout Southern, West, and East Africa - brings to SAA's passengers unprecedented levels of comfort, reliability, and technological sophistication.
In the SAA in-flight information centre you will find an overview of South African Airways' on-board services, including route-specific movie schedules, audio schedules for our international flights, information about the latest issue of Sawubona, our in-flight magazine, and a detailed preview of duty-free products available for purchase on board any international South African Airways flight.
South African Airways is Africa's leading airline. SAA's mission is to be the carrier of choice in the markets we serve. On 1 April 1999 South African Airways - formerly a division of Transnet, entered a new era of privatisation and was renamed South African Airways (Pty) Ltd.
