The site of the Slave Lodge in Cape Town ironically became the Supreme Court, then the Cultural History Museum, but now returns to its roots to be known once again as The Slave Lodge in Cape Town. Slavery was abolished in the British Empire on 1 December 1834, but economic benefits of a more accessible workforce, presided over philanthropic reasons. A 'Heritage of Slavery in South Africa' website has been launched: www.museums.org.za/iziko/slavery.
