South African currency is the South African Rand. Forex facilities are available all over the city and there are plenty of banks. You don't need to change money before arrival, as you can do so at the Bureau de Change at Cape Town International Airport. You can also draw money direct from your foreign bank account with your bank card or credit card. South Africa has a modern and sophisticated banking and commercial system, and most shops and hotels in Cape Town or other South African cities accept all major credit cards.
