The Rainbow Nation is home to an eclectic mix of intriguing communities and individuals. Grassroute Tours takes you on an interactive, insightful journey into the heart of our dynamic people. Witness the everyday life of South Africas many varied cultures. Share in the struggles, hopes and achievements. And understand why the birth of the New South Africa was such an important day in our lives. Beginning in District Six, the Rainbow Curtain tour indulges you in cross-cultural voyage of discovery into the many facets of South African society. A visit to the District 6 Museum animates the stories and the memories of former residents. The area, once a bustling Cape Town neighbourhood, is now a desolate wasteland, following apartheid’s forced removals in 1966. The tour continues on to the traditional township areas of Langa and Khayelitsha. Langa is the oldest formal township in Cape Town, while Khayelitsha is the largest. Experience first hand the living conditions of these settlements. In the midst of this poverty, it is truly remarkable to witness the spirit’s resilience and the strength of self worth as it towers high above oppression. The tour can be extended to include a visit to Robben Island – one of the most famous islands in the world. Now a museum, the island served as Nelson Mandela’s “home” for 27 years, while he was held as a political prisoner. At the end of the Rainbow Curtain Tour, your appreciation and understanding of our beautiful country will indeed be richer. When you choose Grassroute tours, you also choose to support South Africa's Tourism Community Development Trust (TCD Trust). The trust was established in a bid to involve the community in the positive growth provided by the Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
