New meets old in Cape Town’s latest luxury boutique hotel. Situated in the heart of Cape Town, on bustling, legendary Long Street, the historic Metropole Hotel it is a HIP HOTEL with modern sex appeal. It’s warm, it’s stylish and it’s fun! The 29 room Metropole, which has seen stylistic changes through the decades, has adopted a new contemporary and uncluttered interior. The Metropole also features a new restaurant, Veranda and an upmarket bar, the M-Bar & Lounge. Special features in the large guest rooms, which occupy the two floors above the restaurant and bar area include soft white French linen, travertine marble bathrooms, a Juliet balcony (with views facing the bustling Long Street) and all technological mod cons like internet modem portholes, satellite television and air-conditioning. People gazers should try the Metropole’s restaurant, Veranda, which offers uninterrupted views of Long Street. It is a 90-seater, with an interior that utilises clean lines, juxtaposed with contrasting colours. The menu is hearty and unpretentious and the head chef Roy Thomson describes it as “comfort food with a twist”, adding "I love peasant food from around the world - add a bit of glamour and you have a meal fit for a king or queen that is,” The menu consists of signature dishes such as duck bobotie and beer battered hake and chips. Further down the corridor from Veranda is the elegant M-Bar & Lounge. The richly hued poppy-red lounge area offers intimate relaxation corners and features red ostrich leather chairs, subtle sophisticated upbeat (background) music and a Versace fabric covered sofa. Comic wire bent figurines appear where heavy stuffed animal heads once hung. The reddish illumination and styling oozes a sexy decadent atmosphere without any pretence.
