Tempest Car Hire was established in 1986 on the perceived need in the market for a company whose tariff was reasonably priced and who offered a highly personalised service. In 1991 the Imperial Group acquired Tempest Car Hire which allowed us to expand our network and base into our current market position as fourth largest car hire company in South Africa. Philosophy Our philosophy has always been that of the protection of the consumers’ right to lower prices and our well known and recognised television campaigns echo these sentiments. In 1999 Tempest was named Advertiser of the Year at the Financial Mail Ad Focus awards. Associations Tempest are members of SAVRALA (South African Vehicle Renting and Leasing Association) and maintain the strict code of conduct necessary for members of the association. Franchise Partners In October 2001, Tempest was awarded the Sixt Rent A Car franchise for Southern and Central Africa. We are now in a position to facilitate domestic as well as international inbound and outbound reservations. Fleet & Network We have a fleet of approximately 1600 vehicles which are on average rotated every nine months. This means that our customers always drive new cars.
