Undoubtedly Cape Town's most beautiful theatre, THEATRE ON THE BAY is a cultural landmark on the Atlantic Seaboard and home to world-class live entertainment. Located on the beachfront in Camps Bay and embraced by Table Mountain, the Twelve Apostles and the Atlantic Ocean, THEATRE ON THE BAY is a comfortable, relaxed and inviting venue where musicals, comedies and reviews jostle with local and international dramas. Acclaimed South African performers have graced the stage of the 220-seater theatre in productions penned by renowned South African and overseas playwrights.
From Pieter Dirk Uys' "Auditioning Angels", Paul Slabolepszy's "The Return of Elvis du Pisanie" and Peter Hayes' "The Fence" to Steven Berkoff's "Decadence", Marie Jones' "Stones in his Pockets", Vladimir Gubaryev's "Sarcophagus" and classis such as "Private Lives" by Noel Coward, "The Mousetrap" by Agatha Christie and "The Graduate" by Terry Johnson, THEATRE ON THE BAY has presented a wide and diverse range of work that has enlightened, entertained and been enjoyed by over a million theatre goers since its opening in 1988. In recent years, Pieter Toerien Productions has also presented the worldwide hits Les Miserables, CATS and The Phantom of the Opera at the Artscape Opera House and the Pretoria State Theatre.
On the first floor of the theatre is the THE ACT I THEATRE CAFÉ, which offers a small but diverse menu that changes quarterly. Enjoy a relaxed dinner prior to a performance – with dessert served at interval - or simply order something light and tasty before the start of the show. The Coffee Bar offers our firm favourite Death By Chocolate while the theatre's cocktail bar, Dietrich's is fully stocked - and there's always a chance that you may catch the performers having a nightcap there after the show! THEATRE ON THE BAY caters for every occasion - from a romantic evening out for two to full-house corporate client and fundraising events. Contact us now for more information. We’d love to see you here.
