THE BETTER BEER EXPERIENCE The Paulaner Bräuhaus is a vibrant microbrewery and restaurant providing a touch of Bavaria blended with Cape cuisine and frothy freshly brewed beer. Situated in the Clocktower Precinct of the world-renowned V&A Waterfront, Paulaner is the only brewery in the world with its fermentation and maturation cellar below sea level. With a choice between alfresco tables in the beer garden, a breathtaking view from the balcony over the Waterfront, a lively pub down stairs, or more formal dining tables upstairs, the 650-seater venue produces the healthiest beer in South Africa. Brewed on the premises by the resident Bavarian brewmaster, Wolfgang Ködel, all Paulaner beer is brewed according to the German Purity Law, or the Reinheitsgebot, which mandates that beer can only be made from four ingredients: malted barley, hops, yeast and water and may not be pasteurized or carbonized. This live, natural beer has taken South African beer drinkers by storm since the Paulaner Bräuhaus opened in December 2001. Generous portions of Bavarian specialities such as Goulasch soup, Bratwurst with sauerkraut, Pork knuckles and dumplings with Cape tastes like seafood and ostrich, teamed with at least three styles of beer - weiss (wheat), lager, and dunkel (dark larger) - or one of the many fest beers made for special occasions such as Oktoberfest or Salvator, have earned Paulaner a reputation as the place to enjoy a fabulous meal with a naturally cloudy brew at great value for money. Plus, there’s live entertainment from Wednesday’s to Saturday’s featuring a variety of music to suit all tastes – from German Umpah through to 60’s and 70’s Classics and Rock – and big screen TV for sporting events, all of which keep locals and tourists returning to enjoy the good South African tradition of watching sport or an evening out while sipping the world’s oldest cultivated drink. |
