ASTA’s 20,000-plus members include US travel agents and the companies whose products they sell such as tours, cruises, hotels, car rentals, etc. ASTA are the leading advocate for travel agents and the traveling public.
2001 commemorated the 70th anniversary of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), the world’s largest travel trade association. Since its founding on April 20, 1931 as the American Steamship and Tourist Agents Association, ASTA has remained true to the mission outlined by its founding members, US travel agents.
Even in the face of recent predictions of the demise of US travel agents, ASTA’s current initiatives fighting for its members as well as for the traveling public indicate a promising future for US travel agents and for the entire Society.
The American Society of Travel Agents' mission is to enhance the professionalism and profitability of US travel agents through effective representation in industry and government affairs, education and training, and by identifying and meeting the needs of the traveling public.
