Cape Town crime is a subject. Traditional village values where tribal chiefs maintain law and order, don't apply in the cities . As a result crime has spiralled, (some would say out of control). However, a visitor to Cape Town is unlikely to encounter any crime at all. There may be opportunistic bag snatchers or pocket thieves, but normal vigilance will limit any risk. Most violent crimes and shootings in Cape Town occur in gangland drug-dealing territory, which you should avoid at all cost.
