While in the Kayelitsha-Gugulethu region, make the township-based Sivuyile Tourism Centre, (next to Sivuyile College), your starting point - tel:  021 637 8449. Or board the red double-decker bus for a Township Music Tour whose highlights include, a drumming circle, traditional African instruments, story-telling, and a stop for a 'washdown' (usually referring to a beer), at a shebeen (tavern - often unlicensed). Khayelitsha

Visit Khayelitsha, South Africa's second largest township, which has traditionally been the point of arrival for job-hunters from the former Transkei and Ciskei black homelands. Your stay in Khayelitsha is not complete without a visit to Philani Nutrition Centre (Walter Sisulu Road, Site C, tel: 021 387 5124).  Here you can snap up township-inspired tapestries, pillows and shirts.
