Description
Inspired by the past, in love with the future Amidst the splendour of the Stellenbosch Mountain lies the undiscovered magnificence of Blaauwklippen Wine Estate. The farm is truly a part of the history of Stellenbosch and dates back to the late 17th century when German potter, Gerrit Visscher conquered the rugged wilderness to settle his family in what was to become the Cape's most well known wine region. The farm was originally known as De Blaauwe Klippe – a name derived from the blue granite rock formations that were found in the river that ran through the estate. The rest, as they say, is history… Through the years Blaauwklippen was known for the first-rate range of wines that accumulated a number of accolades and since 1999, special emphasis has been placed on the production of premium red wines. Extensive soil, climatic analyses and ongoing vineyard-replanting programmes have seen the uprooting of white vineyards in favour of selected clones of noble red cultivars. The new owners have brought with them a spirit of rejuvenation that has touched every aspect of the estate. They have managed to recreate the old farm feeling in beautiful new buildings that incorporate a wine shop, tasting venue as well as a restaurant, banqueting facilities and a delicatessen that stocks a delectable range of picnic-style products. Blaauwklippen is the perfect destination for any occasion, whether enjoying a Sunday picnic with family, entertaining clients during a business lunch or celebrating a special occasion with a traditional carriage ride, followed by a private wine tasting and romantic dinner. The staff is able to make your fantasy a reality.
