Back in 1997 Cape Town was a virtual desert for fashionable and affordable imported clothing. A few boutiques were in operation but none had the edge or selection that the city's fashion congnoscenti desired. Step in Kerry and Debbie Taylor, owners of Cigar Clothing, each possessing an innate understanding of what their fashion-starved clientele wanted. Buyer Kerry makes regular trips to France where she meets with designers and fashion houses to make her selection for the seasons ahead. The ever-changing array of seasonal must-haves are selected from some of the most well-loved designers in France including Tara Jermon, Zyga, Biscote and Ikks. An eye for exquisite cuts, detailing and quality fabrics means Kerry's choices literally fly off the shelves from Cigar and through the years they have built up an impressive clientele who depend on the Cigar team to keep them up to date with cutting edge fashions. Never ones to follow fashion fads just for the sake of it, the Cigar team is well aware of the demands of busy women – whether comfortable pieces for daywear or a special outfit for a function, Cigar has something for every look, day or night.

After eight years of successful operation, Cigar Clothing has sharpened their focus. Along with their limited ranges of exquisite imported clothing, they also stock exclusive ranges of Gucci sunglasses, local designer Cara Elizabeth shoes, custom made jewellery as well as cult French lingerie label, Princesse Tam Tam. "We realised that our customers love knowing that their clothing is part of a limited range available here and we wanted to help them accessorise with equally exclusive wardrobe items", explains Debbie Taylor.
