Description
Diemersdal is a magnificent 300-year-old estate which has been farmed by the Louw family since 1885. Tienie Louw has passed on his passion for, and dedication to creating wines of outstanding quality to his children, who are in training to become the fifth generation to nurture this beautiful land. This historic farm was orginally given to Hendrik Sneewind in 1698 whose widow later married Colonel Diemer. The great grandfather of the present owners, Tienie and Beyers Louw bought this 300-year-old farm in 1855 and he replaced the wheatlands with vineyards. Diemersdal wines have been sold Internationally since 1920 but only since 1989 become available direct from the estate. The prime location of the vineyards in the shadows of the Kanonkop of Durbanville, combined with four generations of wine-making knowledge are important factors in making wines of the stature and character for which all the Diemersdal reds are well known. "Our vineyards have always been the most important component in creating our wines. Cool Atlantic breezes, long sunshine hours, excellent soils, sufficient rain and cooling mists all contribute to the quality of our grapes. In the cellar, minimum interference ensures that the natural attributes of the grapes are reflected in our wines." – Tienie Louw
