With the shortage of Chinese restaurants in Cape Town the opening of The Empire Asian Restaurant in Sea Point is a welcome development. Owner Chef, James and his wife Stella, run this delightful and traditional Chinese restaurant that will appeal to local Chinese as well as Western diners. James, who has been a professional Chef for more than 15 years, was trained to the highest level in one of Shanghai's most famous culinary schools before coming to South Africa to open a traditional Chinese restaurant here.
In keeping with its name, The Empire Asian Restaurant also offers more than 20 kinds of Asian encompassing Chinese, Thai and Japanese food so the popular Sushi Bar as you enter the restaurant comes as no surprise. James' Chinese dishes are covered by two menus of which one is especially for Chinese people who make up about half of the clientele, an indication of the authenticity and quality of his food. The style is Southern Chinese but departs here and there with popular favourites such as Peking Duck and Crispy Duck.
Other popular signature dishes include Steamed whole fish, Deep Fried Prawn with Garlic and Chilli and Deep Fried Prawn with Sweet and Hot sauce. The varied menu that encompasses Asian food of different countries and cultures will appeal to those who want to experiment with a delectable array of flavours and styles all under one roof.
