Description
The red bricked, stone faced Station building with the teak clock tower was designed in 1913, now a National Heritage Site, forming the Gateway to the Historic mile with De Posthuys, the oldest Colonial building in South Africa; Rhodes Cottage and the Natale Labia Gallery. Housed in the station building ~ and originally a tea room, then the Station Master's apartment ~ Fogeys Railway House has the most astonishing view of the sea. On calm days the sash windows are opened and one can smell the sea air and look out across the bay. The interior has been revamped resulting in a warm, generous space with earthy tones, dark comfortable cane chairs and solid wooden tables - elegant, yet comfortably relaxed. The décor that speaks of the sheer elegance of the ‘20's. On entering the building with its still original high sealing and wooden floor one is instantly transported to the 1920's, where little old men enjoyed their tea in their black suites and top hats.
Fogeys Railway House has been known for its excellent cuisine, stunning sea views, and historical architecture. It is a fantastic venue for functions and live music. It sits snugly in a Landmark building, Muizenberg Station
The restaurant serves delectable global cuisine . The menu could be described as light South African / Mediterranean with a well thought out selection of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes ~ concentrating on fresh ingredients and fresh ideas with attention to detail.
International food well prepared using French technique and classic sauces combined with fresh local produce. Emphasis on that which is South African such as our game, ostrich and Fruits from the sea.
At Fogeys we strive to serve food with taste compositions which are carried on four pillars. If there is no war between the tastes, there is a balance,
which ensures a pleasant dining experience!
