Description
Nestling beneath the ramparts of Table Mountain, tucked away in a side street behind the famous Mount Nelson Hotel, lies a rare experience for those who would appreciate the opportunity of fine dining in the presence of greatness. The Nobel Laureate Room at Cape Town's renowned Leinster Hall Restaurant is the only venue on earth where you can enjoy marvellous cuisine ‘in the company' of four Nobel Peace Prize Laureates whose specially commissioned portraits in oils hang on the historical walls of Leinster Hall, itself part of the 150-year old Cape Town Club. To enter these portals is to be immediately transported back to a time of grace and leisure that today we can only envy. The Nobel Laureate Room is an intimate dining room seating only 50 people which means that experiencing its special ambience can be a privilege available to comparatively few. It is also the only place where you can enjoy the special skills of Chefs David Higgs and Wynand Du Plessis. Of the four Laureates it is quite extraordinary that only Chief Albert Luthuli is no longer alive. The others are still very much in the forefront of public activity in the extraordinary world that is the new South Africa. Where former President F W De Klerk unveiled the portraits in the Nobel Laureate Room, those present heard personal messages of goodwill from his two peers Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, all honorary members of the Cape Town Club, and like the Club and Leinster Hall, very much part of the history of the country and the City of Cape Town.
