POPULAR RESTAURANT CELEBRATES A DECADE OF EXCELLENCE As Peddlars on the Bend celebrates their tenth anniversary, décor and menu of this popular Cape Town institution have been tweaked creating a venue that is both casual and unassumingly elegant, refreshingly modern and yet steeped in rich tradition. The diverse menu caters for just about every taste preference from the local to the regular international tourist and pleases those with conservative taste-buds to the avid follower of current food trends. For starters, the traditional diner will delight in the ‘Caprese' or ‘Cured Norwegian Salmon.' A Must-try for those wanting something a little more trendy is the ‘Tomato, Basil & Black Olive Tartlet.' Favourite main courses like the ‘Lamb Knuckle Curry' and ‘Zorba's Revenge' make a comeback, whilst spicy little numbers like the ‘Chicken Breast, Bacon and Leek Parcel' and ‘Baby Calamari in Garlic, Chilli & Lemongrass' add a refreshing twist to the menu. To end your dining experience on a sweet note, try the ‘Tiramisu' or ‘Fresh Fruit Meringue.' Peddlars has a comprehensive winelist, highlighting wines from the Constantia valley as well as a wide selection that ranges from sought after to affordable wines. In addition, the wine list also boasts an impressive selection of ‘Grand Marque' Champagnes at extremely reasonable prices. Top quality red wines are purchased every year on auction and matured over time in the extensive cellar. Bottles at their peak maturation are displayed in the restaurants' vinoteque and patrons are invited to choose from this selection with gems such as rare Nederburg Auction reds, Buitenverwagting Christine and Cordoba Crescendo, to name but a few. Peddlars has been awarded the prestigious Diners Club Winelist Award for the past five years with the most recent being the 2003 Platinum Award. The majestic 100-year-old Oak Tree on the summer terrace provides the ideal spot for aficionados of alfresco dining, whilst the recent refurbishments done inside the restaurant certainly give this option a tantalising edge. To create a clean-lined, elegant look that showcases the Classic Cape Venacular style, raw cement floors were dramatically reduced giving an elegant free-flowing feel. To complement the menu and accent their beautifully presented dishes, placemats on bar tabletops gave way to elegantly dressed tables. A newly installed dado rail allows for a two-tone wall to subtly manipulate the ambience and simultaneously adds a touch of understated opulence. Peddlars is situated on the Spaanschemat River Road. Serving seven days a week from 12 noon through to 23h00, this is the ideal venue for business and leisurely lunches as well as evenings out with family and friends.
